First presented at the OPSO Annual Conference on September 27, 2019, Dr Betlinski links pain, trauma, and substance abuse and reviews their effects on brain development.

Objectives:

– Know three examples of the link between trauma, pain and substance use

– Know three effects of trauma on brain development

– Know three ways Substance Use helps one cope with the effects of trauma

– Know three ways to help those with a history of trauma

Dr. Betlinski discloses that he has no relevant financial relationships with any organization producing, marketing, reselling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients relative to the content of his presentation.

The Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of Oregon is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 2-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Jonathan Betlinski, M.D., is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Oregon Health & Science University, and Director of the Division of Public Psychiatry. Among other projects, he serves as Medical Director for the Oregon Psychiatric Access Line about Adults, as a Lead Faculty for the Oregon ECHO Network, as Program Committee Chair for the Oregon Psychiatric Physicians Association, and as a certified trainer for adult and youth Mental Health First Aid.
