Sifu Fernandez – WingTchunDo – Lesson 63 – Bart Chum Dao – Wooden Dummy
Bart Chum Dao on the wooden dummy is a very good exercise. We look at doing the whole wooden dummy form using the Bart Chum Dao instead of the hands. The movements include variations to the applications as we direct our attacks in either ‘slicing’ or ‘stabbing’ techniques.
Done very slowly it is of great benefit in developing a high level of sensibility and understanding body mechanics.
Furthermore it brings to light on how certain techniques like the Tan Sao or Double Gan Sao techniques (to name a few) may have come into development.
As I often say, what came first the chicken or the egg? In this case one wonders if many Wing Chun techniques derived from the sword.
