CONTENT: This 6-hour class presented by Linda Walker, MHR, LPC, BCN, BCB introduced licensed professionals to the measurement of heart rate variability (HRV) from an EKG signal or from peripheral blood flow (HR/BVP). The 4 x 1.5 hour lesson demonstrated a variety of convergent training strategies to produce increased heart rate variability.

Lesson 1 – Definition of HRV, review of the autonomic nervous system, foundational discussion of Porges’ Polyvagal and Neurovisceral theories, basic examination of the HRV measurements.

Lesson 2 – Review of material from the first lesson, understanding the biofeedback signal relative to HRV (including spectral frequencies), how stress effects HRV, examining results of stress tests.
Lesson 3 – Simple tool for at-home HRV training, example of resonant frequency breathing evaluation, review & analysis of a resonant frequency evaluation, including how to respond to artifacts.
Lesson 4 – Review of participant resonant frequency breathing evaluation, example of HRV training session, based on differing HRV measurements
