Description
Description:
When people feel “stuck,” they often describe it metaphorically—being “blocked,” “in quicksand up to my neck,” “beating my head against a wall,” “in the pit of despair,” etc. Andrew T. Austin (author of The Rainbow Machine) has discovered how metaphors can be used to clarify and resolve the problem.
Educational Objectives:
- Explain how to elicit the detailed characteristics of the client’s metaphor for how they are stuck or blocked, etc.
- Use this information to examine how the client’s attempts to deal with their problem aren’t working, and elicit alternatives in order to resolve their problem.
