Description

Description:

Join Milton Erickson at his teaching seminars in the late 1970s as he demonstrates his innovative teaching methods, prompting students to sharpen their utilization skills. Utilization was one of Erickson’s signature methods. He would utilize whatever the client brought to therapy, whatever the current situation offered, to advance therapy goals. Erickson could find virtue in any perceived “flaw” and harness the “flaw” to produce positive change in the client.

In this video, you will learn Erickson’s process for creating a tailored intervention for clients with body image problems. His nonverbal methods evoke adaptive responses and elicit lasting change. Jeff Zeig, the director of the Erickson Foundation will provide an introduction and then deconstruct the methods used by Erickson, demonstrating how they can be easily applied to your clinical practice, no matter what your orientation or level of experience.

Educational Objectives:

  1. To provide a description of the utilization principle.
  2. To describe how to utilize the situation with a given client.
  3. To indicate a nonverbal method to prompt symptom amelioration with a given client.
