Description
By the end of the presentation, learners should be able to:
1. Describe the pathophysiology of pain as it relates to the concepts of pain management.
2. Accurately assess patients in pain.
3. Develop a safe and effective pain treatment plan.
4. Identify evidence-based non-opioid options for the treatment of pain.
5. Identify the risks and benefits of opioid therapy.
6. Manageongoing opioid therapy.
7. Recognize behaviors that may be associated with opioid use disorder.
The Georgia Osteopathic Medical Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 1.0 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.
Grievance Policy:
All grievances should be in writing and should specify the nature of the grievance. Initially, all grievances should be directed to GOMA’s Executive Director, who will then forward said grievance to the CME Planning Committee. All grievances will receive an initial response in writing within 30 days of receipt. If the participant does not receive a satisfactory response, then they can then submit a complaint in writing to the Bureau of Osteopathic Education of the AOA at 142 East Ontario Street, Chicago, IL 60611.

Melissa Ann Walker DO, MPA, is a Family Practice Physician/Owner, of Carol Clinic for Family-Centered Healthcare. Dr. Walker is a family medicine physician and the owner and founder of Carol Clinic for Family-Centered Healthcare. Carol Clinic is named for her late mother, Mrs. Carol Williams Walker. Dr. Walker’s mother suffered a stroke at the age of 53 and was hospitalized for greater than two years before her death. After her mother’s death, Dr. Walker’s initial desire to become a physician was reignited. Dr. Walker is a graduate of Grambling State University where she received both a Bachelor Science in Biology and a Master of Public Administration in Health Services. She received her medical degree from Midwestern University in Illinois and completed her residency in Family Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Dr. Walker takes very seriously her responsibility to better mankind and support the underserved and underrepresented. She currently serves as President of C.A. Whittier Medical Society and as Chair for her region of the National Medical Association which encompasses nine states. Dr. Walker is vivacious public speaker. She travels the United States and abroad speaking on healthcare issues and other topics to which she gives a “medical and spiritual prospective.” Dr. Walker gives praises God for all her many blessings and talents. She believes that medicine is a ministry for which she was chosen. She often states, “My goal is to make a difference in the lives of families, all families.”
